between form and content through individual musical answers to the questions of the time - answers characterized by idealism. The creative spirit of this era, when artists strived for individual virtuosity in their musical expression as well as for unrestricted individuality and freedom, roused a life-long passion which not only shaped countless musical careers but also a whole generation - among others also decision makers and opinion leaders of today's society.
It is this idealism and the joy of making music that characterize the legends of rock and jazz music gathered around Leslie Mandoki. Needless to say, this also involves the care of traditional production techniques. Musicians get together, talk about everything under the sun, and then make music together. All of this takes place in the best acoustic environment – in Mandoki's studio, where their music is recorded on analog-tapes with the finest microphones, and in the end all these factors account for the warmth and closeness in the sound of the ManDoki SoulMates.
Over the years true friendships have developed between the musicians and thus, what at first sight looks like a multi-artist all-star project, became a “real band“ - the only difference being that the line- up reads like the Who's Who of rock and jazz history.
Now the musicians of the ManDoki group, which originated in the 90s, got together again in Leslie's studios at Lake Starnberg to record their musical vision of hand-made and, as they put it, 'relevant' music with the idealism of the 70s trying to find answers to the questions of tomorrow.
For a while they lived in the studio or at the Mandoki home, laughing, discussing, cooking, eating and drinking together.
Above all, however, they all pursued their biggest passion – making music together. As a consequent sequel to their previous work they have now released their fifth studio album “AQUARELLE“, which conveys the same values as its predecessors in a very personal way .
A concept album on the fragility of artists' souls and a reflection on societal change such as the radical decrease in the half life of public issues to macro- and micro economic developments or the implosion of value systems.
An invariable and consistent musical statement.
At a time of radical change.
